Why I started blogging...

Not too long ago I went on a social media fast. It was a relatively brief fast (only 6 days). However, during that time I found that I was able to spend a lot more time thinking, praying, reading, and listening. Most significantly of all, I felt a deep connection with God.
I revisited some of the first books that inspired me and helped build a foundation in my Christian walk. The first was A. W. Tozer's, The Pursuit of God, where in chapter 2 he writes about "The Blessedness of Possessing Nothing." The second book was by an author named, Chuck Miller, his book was titled, The Spiritual Formation of Leaders. In this book Miller talks about the two rooms in every leaders life: (1) The "Soul Room," and (2) the "Leadership Room." Both of these authors spent considerable time talking about the importance and beauty of spending quality time with the Father. The essence of the Christian life is to be in a deep relationship with Jesus Christ. When Jesus becomes the most important thing in your life, when God reigns unchallenged in your heart, when the Spirit alone leads you, then you can truly live out the purpose God has for you.
The second thing that happened during this fast was that I began listening to the Eric Metaxas Show. This is a podcast that is hosted by an incredible author named, and you guessed it, Eric Metaxas. Eric is a passionate follower of Jesus, and on his show he brings in many great authors and thinkers to discuss a wide range of topics both nationally and globally. Listening to these podcasts sparked in me a desire to think more deeply on current event issues and ethics, as well as figure out a way to contribute to society as a whole.
At the end of my fast, as I sat in my mediocre study, I began processing all the things that the Lord had been revealing to me. The connection I felt to God, the depth of insight from reading and listening, and the challenges to my faith I now felt were all things I didn't want to lose.
As a result, I came up with what I called a "New Vision" for social media:
To glorify Christ and further His kingdom.
To speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.
To bring joy and healing to a broken and hurting world.
With what little influence I have in the world, I want my social media and websites to be about these three things. I'm tired of wasting time looking for something to be entertained by. I want to make an impact on the world around me.
Hopefully, this is one way that I can do that. So why have I started this blog? I want to be a spiritual contributor and not a consumer. I want to glorify Christ and further his kingdom, not sit back and watch from the sidelines. I want to bring awareness to problems in the world, and offer solutions on how to fix them. I want to make people smile, not frown over another negative thing on the internet.
I hope and pray this new venture can do these things.
