GET TO KNOW ME
My Background
Growing up as a child, our family attended both church and Sunday school on a weekly basis. I learned all the major Bible stories and characters (and even how to win in a game of musical chairs). While I do not have an exact date or time, I believe at around 6-8 years old I understood the concept of sin, hell, and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone. I wholeheartedly placed my trust Him at that time, and believe that is when I was saved as well as baptized. However, while I may have had a lot of head knowledge about God at that time, I do not believe I was fully experiencing what it meant to be in a relationship with God. In addition, I was not truly living my life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. It was not until my sophomore year of college that I was discipled by a man named Gus who taught me the Bible and how to center my life around God. He shared with me what it meant to base my identity in Christ. It was at that time that I said, “Jesus if you’re this good, I’ll follow you anywhere.” So, while I would say I was “saved” at a young age, I was not a disciple until about my college years. Since that time I have spent my days learning more and more about what it means to be in a deep friendship with Jesus and teaching others the same.
